A journey of resilience, revival, and excellence. From the pioneering days of 1950 to becoming a symbol of national pride.
Cultivation work for sugar cane commenced in the fertile Gal Oya Valley. Driven by the availability of water from the Inginiyagala tank, this massive development project laid the foundation for Sri Lanka's sugar industry.
The Hingurana Sugar Factory, Sri Lanka's very first, began production. By 1962, the distillery complex roared to life, producing high-quality spirits from molasses, marking a golden era of industrial independence.
Due to various challenges, operations came to a halt. The factory closed its doors, leaving the fields dormant. But the potential of the land remained, waiting for a new vision.
A historic Public-Private Partnership was formed. Gal Oya Plantations (Pvt) Ltd was born. A consortium led by Brown & Company PLC and LOLC Holdings PLC joined hands with the government to breathe life back into the valley.
Today, Gal Oya stands tall as a model of success. Producing record-breaking alcohol volumes, empowering thousands of farmers, and setting new benchmarks in sustainability and quality.
